What are Schools doing across WNY?
- On Wednesday, Dec 5th, the Bishop Timon/St. Jude community joined with 700 other schools across the US in the Fast for Darfur. On that day, over 180 Timon students, staff and faculty refrained from eating lunch and instead donated the cost to the Genocide Intervention Network to aid in providing much needed propane gas to the people of Darfur. Enough funds were raised to supply 220 families in Darfur with propane for 1 month. Thanks to all who participated.
- Wilson High School S.A.A.D’s Club had a bake sale and raised $75 for the IRC.
- Pioneer Central High School and Middle Schools are in the process of raising $10,000 for medicine and livestock (a la Heifer Intl) for a few villages in Uganda.
- Burgard Vocational High School is planning fundraising for Africa.
- Springville Middle School is hosting a Darfur Awareness Week.
- Hamburg High School had a letter writing campaign to politicians and news groups, they are selling t-shirts and hosting a Darfur Awareness Week: featuring a bake sale, HOTEL RWANDA movie showing, daily announcements, etc. They also have Marathon Relay Teams forming. They will be attending the Rally in Niagara Square.
